Poland is a country with a land
of 322,577 km and has a population of over 38 million people. The nation is
divided into 49 districts with a total of 835 cities and 56,866 villages.
Twenty of the cities have over 200,000 inhabitants: Warsaw, Lódz,
Kraków, Wroclaw, Poznan, Gdansk, Szczecin, Bydgoszcz, Katowice, Lublin,
Bialystok, Sosnowiec, Czestochowa, Gdynia, Bytom, Radom, Gliwice, Kielce,
Zabrze, and Torun. The majority of Poles live in these cities - 23,675,000
residents. The rural area claims 14,570,000 inhabitants . Presently, about 100
churches and confessional orders are registered in Poland. The largest church
is the Roman Catholic Church with a membership of 35,894,000 people (about 94%
of Poland's population). Other large churches include the Orthodox Church
(570,000 members); the Greek Catholic Church (300,000 members); and the
Lutheran Church (100,000). The largest evangelical church is the Pentecostal
Church with 12,886 members.
